About
About HeartTap
HeartTap is an app for two people. It puts your partner on your home screen, and gives the two of you a few small things to do together every day.
What it is
The centre of HeartTap is a widget. You post a photo, a short video, a drawing or a few words, and it appears on your partner’s home screen without either of you opening anything. Around the widget sit a shared drawing canvas, a library of over 2000 questions, a daily check-in, daily promises and a shared streak.
It is on the App Store and Google Play, and has been on the App Store since April 2026. It is free to download, with an optional subscription.
Who makes it
HeartTap is built and operated by FlutterKada. The app carries no advertising and earns money in one way, through the optional subscription. That keeps its interests close to yours: it does well when couples find it worth keeping, and not when they spend more time in it.
Why it exists
Messaging apps are built to demand a reply. That suits conversation and is a poor fit for the quieter part of being close to someone, where most of what you want to say is that you exist and are thinking of them. A widget carries that without asking for anything back. HeartTap started there and added the things a widget alone cannot do: something to draw together, something to talk about, and a short ritual at each end of the day.
It is built for exactly two people. There is no public profile, no followers and no feed, and there is no way to add a third person.
How it is built
HeartTap is written with Kotlin Multiplatform, so the logic behind statuses, drawings, questions and streaks is shared between iPhone and Android and ships to both at once. The widgets are native on each side, WidgetKit and SwiftUI on iOS and Glance on Android, because a widget should look as though it belongs on the phone it is sitting on. The cross-platform page has the detail.
What we say plainly
- What you send goes to the partner you are linked with and to nobody else.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use the content you share to train machine learning models.
- Your content is encrypted in transit. It is not end-to-end encrypted, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.
The full detail is in the privacy policy, and you can delete your account and data at any time.
How this site is written
The question sets and idea lists are written for this site, by hand, and sorted by the situation each one suits. They are meant to be useful to someone who never installs the app.
The comparison pages are written by the people who make one of the apps being compared, and each page says so. To make them worth reading anyway, every one states where the other app is the better choice. What we say about another app is checked against that app’s own store listing, and each page shows the date it was last updated.
