Days together calculator
How long have we been together? Enter the date and get the answer in days, and in years, months and days, with the date of the next milestone worth marking.
Enter a date and the count appears here: total days, the same span in years, months and days, and the dates of your next milestone and anniversary.
How the count works
The calculator counts whole calendar days between the date you enter and today, so leap years are handled and the time of day does not matter. Someone who got together on a Monday has been together one day on the Tuesday.
The years, months and days line is worked out the way people say it aloud: whole years first, then whole months, then whatever days are left. That is why it will not always match the total divided by thirty, since months are not all the same length.
Some couples count the day they got together as day one, not day zero. It is the usual convention where a hundredth day is celebrated. Tick the box and every figure, including the milestone dates, moves by a day to match.
Milestones worth marking
| Day | Roughly | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| 100 days | a little over three months | The first one most couples mark, and a big one where counting days is a tradition. |
| 365 days | one year, give or take a leap day | Not always the same date as your anniversary, which is why the calculator shows both. |
| 500 days | about one year and four months | No card exists for it, which is a good reason to make one. |
| 1,000 days | about two years and nine months | The one worth planning something for. |
| 2,000 days | about five and a half years | By now the number surprises both of you. |
| 5,000 days | about thirteen years and eight months | Rarely noticed, because nobody is counting any more. Count. |
| 10,000 days | about twenty-seven years and four months | A better excuse for a party than most anniversaries. |
What to do with the number
Send it. A number means more arriving unannounced on an ordinary day than it does on an anniversary, when it is expected. Write it on a note, or draw it: there are ideas for both in short love notes and things to draw for your partner.
A day count tells you how long it has been. It says nothing about how the days went, which is the more useful thing to keep track of. HeartTap keeps a shared streak for that: it counts the days on which at least one of you did something in the app.
Frequently asked questions
How do I work out how long we have been together?
Enter the date your relationship started. The calculator counts the full days from that date to today and breaks the same span down into years, months and days. It uses the date on your device, so the answer changes at midnight where you are.
Does the first day count as day one?
It depends on the convention. Counting full days elapsed, the day you got together is day zero and the next day is day one. Many couples, particularly those who celebrate a hundredth day, count the first day itself as day one. The tick box switches between the two.
When is our 100 day anniversary?
Ninety-nine days after the date you got together if you count the first day as day one, and one hundred days after it if you do not. Enter your date and the calculator shows the exact date of your next milestone either way.
Is the date I enter stored anywhere?
Only in your own browser, so the count is there when you come back. It is not sent to us or to anyone else, and clearing the date removes it.
