Free and cheap couple widget apps
Every couple widget app is free to download, and almost every one has a subscription behind it. What differs is which side of the paywall the thing you want sits on, and what the paid tier costs once you find out.
Last updated
The cheapest couple widget is the free tier of whichever app you would have chosen anyway. In most of these apps, linking with your partner and putting the basic widget on your home screen costs nothing, and a good many couples never need more than that.
The prices below are the in-app purchases each app lists on the US App Store, checked on 2 October 2026. A listing names each purchase and its price but does not always say how long it lasts, so where it does not say whether a price is weekly, monthly or yearly, we have not guessed. Prices vary by country, change often, and are frequently discounted inside the app.
We make HeartTap. It does not have the cheapest subscription on this page, and its entry says so.
Widgetable
Paid tier: Premium, listed from $1.99 a month and at $19.99 a year
Free to download, with a large catalogue of widgets on the free tier. Widgetable Premium is listed at $1.99 and $4.99 for the monthly plan and $19.99 for the annual one, the lowest annual price on this page. It also sells diamonds, pet eggs and pet food separately, from $0.99, so the pet can end up costing more than the subscription if you let it.
HeartTap vs Widgetable →Locket Widget
Paid tier: Locket Gold, listed from $1.99 to $36.00
Free to download, and the core of it, a photo widget shared with the friends you add, is the free product. Locket Gold is the optional paid tier. The listing shows it at several prices between $1.99 and $36.00 without saying which period each one covers. It is built for a friend group, so decide whether that suits the two of you before worrying about the price.
HeartTap vs Locket Widget →noteit
Paid tier: Diamond Subscription, listed from $1.99 to $7.99
Free to download, with sending a note or a drawing to a widget as the free product. The paid tier is called the Diamond Subscription and is listed at several prices from $1.99 to $7.99. It also sells Streak Repair as a separate purchase, from $2.99, which is worth knowing about if you are the kind of couple who would pay to keep a streak alive.
HeartTap vs noteit →Paint Love
Paid tier: Premium, listed at $1.99 and $19.00, and Remove Ads at $2.99
Free to download, and it needs no account. The listing shows a Remove Ads purchase at $2.99, which tells you the free version carries ads, and a Premium tier at $1.99 and $19.00. If you only want to draw together and do not mind the ads, it costs very little to use.
HeartTap vs Paint Love →SumOne
Paid tier: Subscription, listed at $5.99 a month and $29.99 a year
Free to download, with the daily question and the shared pet as the free product, plus memo and anniversary widgets. A subscription is listed at $5.99 monthly and $29.99 annually. Gems, its in-app currency, are sold in packs from $1.99.
HeartTap vs SumOne →HeartTap
Paid tier: Weekly from $7.99, yearly from $23.99, lifetime $79.99
Free to download. Linking with your partner and using the widget are free, with limits on how much you can post, draw and answer. The subscription lifts those limits and opens the full question library. It is listed weekly at $7.99 and $9.99, yearly at several prices between $23.99 and $59.99, and as a one-off lifetime purchase at $79.99. One subscription covers both partners, so the cost is shared. That still makes it one of the dearer paid tiers here, and it is worth paying for only if you use the questions and the daily check-in as well as the widget.

How to keep the cost down
A couple app is a small purchase that renews quietly. A few habits keep it small.
Use the free tier for a fortnight first
Nearly every app here is charming for two weeks. Pay only once you know you are both still opening it, because the commonest outcome of a couple app subscription is a renewal for something neither of you has used since spring.
Avoid weekly plans
A weekly price looks small and is the most expensive way to pay. $7.99 a week is more than $400 over a year. If you are going to keep an app, the yearly plan is nearly always the cheap one, and a lifetime purchase is cheaper still if you are sure.
Check whether one subscription covers you both
Some couple apps unlock the paid tier for both partners from a single subscription, and some charge each account. It halves the real price, so look for it in the listing or ask the app’s support before you both subscribe.
Watch the small purchases
Currency packs, pet food and streak repairs cost a dollar or two each and are designed to be bought without thinking. Over a year they can outrun the subscription.
Cancel in the store, not in the app
Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, so deleting the app does not stop them. Cancel under Subscriptions in your App Store or Play Store account, and you keep access until the period you paid for ends.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a completely free couple widget app?
Every app on this page is free to download and has a free tier you can use without paying. None of the well-known ones is without a paid tier of some kind. For most couples the free tier of a single app, with partner linking and the basic widget, is enough.
What is the cheapest couple widget app?
On listed US prices, Widgetable has the lowest annual subscription at $19.99, and Locket, noteit and Paint Love all list purchases from $1.99. The cheapest in practice is whichever app you can use on its free tier, so start there.
Is HeartTap free?
Yes, to download and to use every day. Linking with your partner and using the widget cost nothing. There are limits on some actions, and a subscription lifts them and opens the full question library. One subscription covers both partners.
Why do couple apps offer weekly plans?
Because a weekly price looks small. It is the most expensive way to pay for anything you keep longer than a month, so compare it with the yearly price before choosing a plan.
Do I have to pay for my partner as well?
It depends on the app. In HeartTap, one subscription unlocks the paid features for both linked partners. Other apps handle this differently, so check before you both subscribe.
