Flirty questions to ask your partner or crush
Flirting is largely a matter of calibration. The same question is charming from someone you are already close to and unpleasant from someone you met on Tuesday, and the words do not change at all. So these are graded, from teasing that costs nothing to questions you should only ask someone who is definitely enjoying this.
The other half of it is that flirting works by implication. A question that states its intention outright leaves nowhere to go. The good ones leave a small gap for the other person to step into, which is why the light section here is often more effective than the forward one.
Read the response, not the list. If answers get shorter, go back a section. That is the entire skill.
Light and low risk
Safe with a crush or someone new. These read as warm rather than forward, and give the other person an easy way to escalate if they want to.

- 8Are you a better texter or a better talker?

Playful teasing
A step up. These work when there is already some back and forth and both of you are clearly enjoying it.

Questions for an established couple
These assume history. Most of them are also genuinely useful, which is the nice thing about flirting with someone you already know.
- 1What do I do that you find most attractive without me trying?
- 2What is your favourite memory of us that is not the obvious one?
- 3When do you most want me around?
- 4What outfit of mine do you think about?

- 8What would you want to do if we had a day with nothing in it?
- 9What is the best thing about coming home to me?
- 10What do you want more of from me?
Forward
For a relationship where this is welcome and clearly reciprocated. If you are unsure whether you are in that territory, you are not.
- 1What is something you want that you have never asked me for?
- 2What has been on your mind about me lately?
- 3What would you do if I were there right now?
- 4What is a fantasy you would actually want to try?
- 5What makes you feel most wanted?
- 6What do I do that you would like more of?
- 7What is something you would like me to say more often?
- 8What is the best thing about the way we are together?
- 9What would make tonight better?
- 10What are you thinking about right now, exactly?
Flirty questions that work over text
Text loses tone, so anything ambiguous reads as flat or as too much. These survive the medium.
- 1What are you doing that you would rather not be?
- 2What would you be doing if I were there?
- 3What is the highlight of your day so far, and can I beat it?
- 4What are you wearing that you feel good in?
- 5What is something you want to tell me in person?
- 6What did you think about today that you would not admit?
- 7What is the plan for tonight, hypothetically?
- 8What would make this a good week?
- 9What are you looking forward to about seeing me?
- 10What should I have asked you instead of this?
Keep asking without having to remember
The hard part of this is not the questions, it is the habit. Most couples read a list like this, have one good conversation, and never open it again. HeartTap exists mainly to remove that failure: it sends one question at a time to both of you, and hides each answer until you have both written yours, so neither of you drifts toward agreeing with the other.
Frequently asked questions
How do I flirt over text without it being awkward?
Keep it specific and slightly understated, since text strips tone and anything ambiguous lands as either flat or too much. Reference something real between you rather than sending a generic line, and match their energy: if their replies get shorter, ease off rather than pushing harder.
What is a good flirty question for someone I just met?
Stay in the light section. Something like "what is the fastest way to get your attention" is warm and gives them an easy opening without asking for anything. The forward questions need a relationship where they are clearly welcome, and asking them early is the most common way to end an otherwise promising conversation.
How do I know if they are flirting back?
They ask you things back, their answers get longer rather than shorter, and they keep the thread going when it could naturally end. Consistent one-line replies and no return questions are an answer too.
Do flirty questions work in a long relationship?
Particularly well, because long relationships lose this on purpose without meaning to. The section for established couples is half flirting and half genuinely useful information, and most people find they are guessing about the answers despite years of evidence.
One question a day, answered together
HeartTap delivers a question at a time from a library of over 2000, and keeps both answers hidden until you have each written yours. Free on iPhone and Android.
